FAQ

01. What is an Ajrakh print?
Ajrakh (or Ajrak) is an ancient, intricate block-printing technique with origins tracing back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Today, it is primarily practiced in the Kutch district of Gujarat, India, and Sindh, Pakistan. It is famous for its complex geometric and floral patterns, usually stamped using hand-carved wooden blocks.

02. What does "Ajrakh" mean?
The word is believed to be derived from the Arabic word Azrak, which means "blue," reflecting the heavy use of indigo dye in traditional designs. Another popular local phrase is Aaj-rakh, meaning "keep it for today," referring to the long, time-consuming process of making it.

03. What are the traditional colors used in Ajrakh?
Authentic Ajrakh prints rely heavily on natural dyes. The core color palette includes:

Deep Blue: From indigo

Rich Red: From madder root or alizarin

Black: From rusted iron mixed with jaggery

White: Unprinted areas resisting the dye

Yellow/Green: From pomegranate seeds or henna (used occasionally)

Wonderful experience!

I ordered two sarees from the UK to be delivered to my address in India. The shopping experience was hassle free with Mr Ganesh helping me over WhatsApp to select the best saree pattern and design. Without Ganesh's help, I wouldn't have been able to select the perfect sarees for my boy's party. Thanks for your help :)

Very good collection. Even better staff.
We came here for wedding shopping. Ms. Veena is brilliant sales person with tonnes of patience. The other staff members are also very friendly. They showed us the sarees without any hesitation and made sure we were satisfied before shopping. We shopped here entirely for everyone and it's a very good place to shop. Highly recommend to visit this store
