A saree of extraordinary narrative beauty and weaving complexity — woven in deep burnt sienna orange pure silk with an all-over two-colour zari fine check grid composed of alternating gold zari and dark forest green zari lines, creating a rich, jewel-toned plaid ground of great depth and sophistication. The two-colour grid is a rare Kanchipuram technique where two different zari threads are woven in alternating sequence to create a check that shifts in colour and luminosity with the angle of light.
Scattered across the body in a classic diagonal repeat are alternating circular floral medallion buttas in two distinct colourways — larger buttas in antique gold zari with a dense concentric petal and dot-fill design, and smaller buttas in dark forest green zari with the same circular medallion form — creating a lively two-tone butta pattern that echoes the two-colour check ground. The alternation of gold and green buttas across the orange silk creates a fabric of extraordinary chromatic richness.
The saree culminates in a spectacular large-scale gold zari paired parrot (kili) pallu motif — two magnificent parrots depicted in a facing arrangement, each bird rendered in dense antique gold zari with extraordinary feather detailing. The parrots are shown perched on a scrolling floral branch, their bodies filled with fine gold zari feather work, their tail feathers sweeping in long, graceful curves. Accents of deep forest green zari highlight the birds’ collar bands and the branch foliage, creating a three-colour figurative weave of the highest Kanchipuram order. The kili (parrot) is one of the most beloved and auspicious motifs in Kanchipuram weaving — associated with love, fertility, and the divine.
The saree is finished with a narrow plain burnt sienna border with a fine gold zari edge band and a striking deep teal silk selvedge — a classic Kanchipuram korvai colour contrast that grounds the entire composition.
